Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals to reach the final of IPL for the 9th time in the first qualifier of IPL 2021 held in Dubai on Sunday. In the last over, Chennai had to score 13 runs to win. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni showed his old colors and made the match for the team by hitting three fours in Tom Karan’s over. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 18 off 6 balls.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant apparently looked quite disappointed after the match. The team had to face defeat in the last over for the second time in a row. Delhi’s team had lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last league match. When Shrekar Bharat won the match by hitting a six off the last ball.
After the match, Pant said, ‘Of course, it was very disappointing and I have no words to describe how I feel.’ The Delhi captain had many options for the last over but he chose Tom Curran. To this, Pant said, ‘I thought Karan has bowled well throughout the match, so it would be fine to use him for the last over.’
Delhi made a score of 172 for 5 when they were invited to bat first. Pant said the score was fine here. He said, ‘I think our score was fine but the team from Chennai got off to a great start and that was the real difference.’
Delhi will now have to play the winner of the Eliminator match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders in the second qualifier. To this Pant said that our effort will be to rectify our mistakes. “We will correct our mistakes,” he said. We will learn from them and hope we play in the finals.
